What is the mental load?

The mental load is the invisible work of running a family: noticing what needs doing, remembering it, planning it and making sure it happens. It’s separate from doing the task itself. Booking the dentist takes five minutes. Remembering that it needs booking, for every child, every six months, is the mental load.

How the calculator works

You go through 27 everyday tasks in six areas: school, schedules and childcare, health, home and money, family and celebrations, and kids’ emotional life. For each one you say who remembers and plans it, from “Always me” to “Always my partner.” You get your share overall and in each area. Then you can invite your partner to answer separately and see both views side by side, including the jobs that may have no clear owner. It’s a conversation starter, not a scientific test. The research behind it is listed with your result.

What happens to my answers?

The calculator doesn’t ask for your name, email or phone number. We do record the answers, along with basic analytics such as your device type, to learn how families split the load, and we may publish combined statistics. Individual answers are never published.

Or let Zazu hold the list

Zazu is the AI family assistant for working parents. With your permission, it reads the school emails, notices what’s coming and makes sure every job has an owner, inside WhatsApp and iMessage. It always asks before it acts.
