Every day school is closed, in the 30 largest US districts
Pick your district to see every day off and early release for 2026-27 from its official calendar, say who covers each one, and send the list to your partner. Across the 30 districts we read, the median is 26 days a year when working parents need a plan.

How does the planner work?
Choose your school district. Tap a day to say who covers it: you, your partner, or both. Send the list to your partner as a link, and they see it from their side and take the days that are left. You can also add every day, or only your days, to your phone’s calendar. The planner doesn’t ask for your name, email or phone number. Your choices travel inside the link you send. We count how often the planner is used, with no name attached.
How did we count the days?
A day counts when school is closed for all students on a weekday, or when the whole district lets students out early. Holidays that almost every employer observes (Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Memorial Day) are never counted. Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Veterans Day and Presidents’ Day count as holidays only when the district closes school for that holiday by name, because many employers stay open. We read each district’s official 2026-27 calendar on October 4, 2026, and link to it on every page. Many schools add their own early-release days and teacher days that the district calendar doesn’t list, so check with your school too. The full numbers are in our study: 30 of the 30 largest districts, with the same rules.
Let Zazu keep track of it
Zazu is the AI family assistant for working parents. It reads the school emails and calendars, tells both parents what’s coming and asks who’s taking each job, inside WhatsApp and iMessage. It always asks before it acts.
