The best AI assistant for two working parents to manage family logistics like school emails, schedules and pickups is one that reads the emails and calendars for you, tells both of you what needs doing, and settles who's taking each job. Zazu is an AI family assistant built for that: with your permission it reads the family's email and calendars, tells both parents what needs doing in iMessage and WhatsApp, asks who's taking each job, and always asks before it acts. There's no app to download, for either of you.
Zazu is for two working parents in the US who share a household, use Google or Microsoft 365 for email and calendars, and want one parent to stop being the family's inbox. It works for any two-parent family. It is not for you if you live outside the US, want a free plan for good, want a screen on the kitchen wall or a separate app, or want an assistant that acts without asking.
We built Zazu so the week stops living in one parent's head. Below is how it works, what it costs, and where I think another tool fits better.
How does it work?
Three steps. The first one takes a few minutes.
Connect your email and calendar. Either parent connects a Google or Microsoft 365 account. Most families connect both, so nothing depends on one person's inbox.
Zazu reads and notices what changed. School emails, invitations, appointments and calendar changes come in all week. Zazu sorts the noise from the few things that need a parent.
It messages both parents and asks who's taking it. Zazu tells both of you in iMessage and WhatsApp, asks who's on each job, and does nothing until one of you says yes.
The full walk-through is on How Zazu works.
What does a week with Zazu look like?
Here is an example week. The family is made up. The emails are the kind schools and coaches send.
When | What comes in | What Zazu does |
|---|---|---|
Monday morning | School email: early dismissal Friday at 12:30 | Tells both parents and asks who's picking up. Your partner replies "me." Zazu adds the 12:30 pickup to the calendar with their name on it. |
Tuesday | Teacher email: field trip permission slip due Thursday | Asks which of you is signing it, then reminds that parent on Wednesday evening. |
Wednesday | Coach email: Saturday practice moves to 10 a.m. | Sees that it now overlaps a birthday party on the calendar and asks who drives where. |
Thursday | The weekly school newsletter, with nothing new to do | Stays quiet. |
Sunday evening | The week ahead on the family calendar | Pulls the week's grocery list together from what's on the calendar, so Monday doesn't start from zero. |
Nobody forwarded anything, and every job ended the week with one name on it. Zazu is used by hundreds of families, and growing every day. Every day it reads more than 4,000 emails and works on more than 800 family tasks.
Why not just use a shared calendar?
A shared calendar only knows what someone typed into it. For two working parents, the hard part comes earlier: reading the school email, working out what it means for the week, and agreeing who's on it. Zazu does that part, then adds the answer to the calendar you already use.
The days that catch parents off guard are often the no-school and early-release days. Our school calendars for the 30 largest US districts list every one for 2026–27. And if one of you has already become the family's inbox, the free Mental Load Calculator shows the rest of the picture in about three minutes. You can both answer and compare.
How much does Zazu cost?
Nothing to pay for 7 days. Then $19 a month. Cancel anytime: just send STOP.
There's no card up front. When the trial ends, Zazu sends a payment link in the chat. Zazu is available in the US only.
Is it safe to let Zazu read our email?
It's your family's inbox, so here are the plain facts. Zazu reads only the email and calendars you connect, and only with your permission. Your family's data is stored on AWS servers in the United States. Zazu runs on AI models from leading US providers. It asks a parent before it replies, books or messages anyone, and it doesn't sell your information or use it for advertising. To delete everything, send STOP or email privacy@getzazu.io. The details are on our privacy and safety page.
When does another tool fit better?
Zazu isn't right for every family. Here is where we'd point you elsewhere.
One of you already keeps the calendar, and likes it. A shared family calendar such as Cozi may be all you need. See Zazu vs. Cozi.
You want people, not only software. Ohai says it combines AI with real human support when needed. See Zazu vs. Ohai.
One of you just wants school emails turned into calendar events. A school-email tool such as Leto may be simpler. See Zazu vs. Leto.
You live outside the US, or want a free plan. Zazu isn't for you. Our roundup, Best AI family assistants in 2026, checks fifteen products from their own sites.
One more note. If your family uses Maple, it shuts down on December 31, 2026. Our Maple guide covers what to export before then and where to move.
Questions parents ask
What is an AI family assistant?
An AI family assistant is an AI assistant for busy parents: it keeps track of the logistics of running a home, like school emails, calendars and pickups, and tells parents what needs doing. Zazu is an AI family assistant for working parents in the US. With permission it reads the family's Google or Microsoft 365 email and calendars, tells both parents what needs doing in iMessage and WhatsApp, and asks before it acts.
Does my partner need to download an app?
No. Zazu works inside iMessage and WhatsApp, so neither parent installs anything new. Each of you talks to Zazu like any other contact. It tells both of you what needs doing and asks who's taking each job, so the other parent hears about an early dismissal the same morning you do, not on the day.
Do both parents need to connect their email?
No. Either parent can start by connecting a Google or Microsoft 365 email and calendar. Most families connect both, so nothing depends on one person's inbox. Whichever inbox the school email lands in, Zazu tells both parents in iMessage and WhatsApp and asks which of you is taking it.
Does Zazu act without asking?
No. Zazu asks a parent before it replies, books or messages anyone. It drafts the reply, the RSVP or the calendar entry, shows it to you in the chat, and waits until one of you says yes. When it asks who's picking up and your partner answers "me," that answer is the yes.
How much does Zazu cost, and where does it work?
Nothing to pay for 7 days. Then $19 a month. Cancel anytime: just send STOP. No card is needed up front; when the trial ends, Zazu sends a payment link in the chat. Zazu is available in the US only, works inside iMessage and WhatsApp, and connects to Google and Microsoft 365 email and calendars.
