Yes: Zazu, an AI family assistant for working parents, reads your kids' school emails and tells both parents what needs doing in iMessage and WhatsApp, so there's no new app to download. With your permission it reads the family's email and calendars, notices what changed, asks which of you is taking each job, and always asks before it acts. It's a school email assistant for both of you, not just the parent whose address the school has.
Zazu is for two working parents in the US, in any two-parent family, where too many school emails land in one inbox and the other parent hears about things late. You'll need Google or Microsoft 365 email and calendars. It is not for families outside the US, for anyone who wants a free plan for good, or for anyone who wants an assistant that replies to teachers on its own. And if your school sends everything through a class app and nothing by email, Zazu only sees what reaches your inbox. If the app can send email notifications, turn them on.
Zazu started with a call I got at lunch about pickups, dinner and something about the bank. We had a million agents helping us at work, and at home we were still on paper and pen. Here is what Zazu does with a school email, and when a different tool is the better pick.
How does it work?
Connect your email and calendar. Either parent connects a Google or Microsoft 365 account. It takes a few minutes, and most families connect both.
Zazu reads and notices what changed. As school emails arrive, Zazu picks out the few that need a parent: a form, a deadline, a change to the day.
It messages both parents and asks who's taking it. Zazu tells both of you in iMessage and WhatsApp, asks who's on it, and does nothing until one of you says yes.
What does Zazu do with a school email?
Take one email. On Monday morning the school writes that Friday is an early dismissal at 12:30. Zazu reads it and messages both of you: school lets out at 12:30 on Friday, who's picking up? Your partner replies "me." Zazu adds the pickup to the family calendar under their name and reminds them on Friday. Nobody forwarded anything, and nobody had to ask "did you see the email?"
A few more examples, not real families:
The school email says | Zazu asks both parents | What happens next |
|---|---|---|
Permission slip for Thursday's field trip, due Wednesday | The field trip slip is due Wednesday. Who's signing it? | You say "me." Zazu reminds you on Tuesday evening. |
Picture day is next Tuesday; order forms are online | Picture day is Tuesday. Who's ordering photos? | Your partner takes it. Zazu adds picture day to the calendar. |
No school next Wednesday, a teacher workday | No school Wednesday. Who's covering the day? | You settle it in the chat. Zazu adds the plan to the calendar. |
The teacher offers two conference times | Want me to reply that Tuesday at 3 works? | Zazu sends the reply only after one of you says yes. |
The weekly newsletter, with nothing to do | Nothing | Zazu stays quiet. |
Zazu reads more than 4,000 emails a day for hundreds of families, and growing every day. Most need nothing from you.
What if the school only emails one of us?
That's the usual case, and you don't have to fix it first. Zazu reads the inbox you connect and tells both parents, so it doesn't matter which address is on the school's list.
If you'd still like both of you on every list, our letter that gets your school to email both parents is ready to copy, and covers class apps, PTA lists and coaches too. Our guide to getting both parents in the loop on school emails is a five-step setup for one afternoon.
Which school emails does it catch?
The ones that need a parent: permission slips and forms, early dismissals and days off, picture day, field trips, fees, conferences, and changes to sports and activities. Our guides on how to stop missing school forms and picture day and early release days for working parents show how to plan for them, with or without Zazu.
How much does Zazu cost?
Nothing to pay for 7 days. Then $19 a month. Cancel anytime: just send STOP.
There's no card up front. When the trial ends, Zazu sends a payment link in the chat. Zazu is available in the US only.
Is it safe to use an AI that reads school emails?
Zazu reads only the email and calendars you connect, and only with your permission. Your family's data is stored on AWS servers in the United States. Zazu runs on AI models from leading US providers. It asks a parent before it replies, books or messages anyone, and it doesn't sell your information or use it for advertising. To delete everything, send STOP or email privacy@getzazu.io. The details are on our privacy and safety page.
When does another tool fit better?
One of you just wants school emails turned into calendar events. Leto's own site says it pulls the tasks and events out of your school emails and adds them to your calendar. See Zazu vs. Leto.
You'd rather check a list than get a message. Parentalist says it turns school emails into a shared task list both parents can see.
One of you already keeps the family calendar. A shared calendar app such as Cozi may be all you need. See Zazu vs. Cozi.
You'd like to compare family assistants first. Our Zazu vs. Mellou and Zazu vs. Ohai pages set them side by side, and our roundup, Best AI family assistants in 2026, checks fifteen products from their own sites.
Questions parents ask
Can an app read my kids' school emails for me?
Yes. Zazu, an AI family assistant for working parents, reads school emails once you connect a Google or Microsoft 365 account and give it permission. It picks out what needs doing, like a permission slip, an early dismissal or picture day, and tells both parents in iMessage and WhatsApp. There's no separate app to download, and it asks before it acts.
What if only one parent gets the school emails?
That's the usual case, and it's fine. Zazu reads the inbox you connect and tells both parents what needs doing, so it doesn't matter which address is on the school's list. It also asks which of you is taking each job, so one parent stops being the family's inbox and the other stops hearing about things late.
Does Zazu read all of my email?
Zazu reads the email and calendars you connect, only with your permission, and looks for what needs a parent: school deadlines, forms, appointments and pickups. What's yours alone stays yours alone. Your family's data is stored on AWS servers in the United States, and Zazu doesn't sell your information or use it for advertising.
Will Zazu reply to the teacher for me?
Only if you say yes. Zazu asks a parent before it replies, books or messages anyone. It drafts the reply, shows it to you in the chat, and waits until one of you approves it. Nothing goes to the school, a coach or another family without your OK.
How much does Zazu cost?
Nothing to pay for 7 days. Then $19 a month. Cancel anytime: just send STOP. There's no card up front: when the trial ends, Zazu sends a payment link in the chat. Zazu is available in the US only, works inside iMessage and WhatsApp, and connects to Google and Microsoft 365 email and calendars.
